Hello guys, well i must tell you, this is what I think is the most dystopian children’s movie ever made. I watched this so many times as a kid and it is one of my favorite movies and it is a big inspiration for me and you may see it in some of my work, but when you really watch it as an adult you’ll see it is what i think as one of the most unintentionally dystopian movies for children ever made.

This was unintentional, and the Director only wanted to make a light hearted movie, but this movie includes apocalyptic themes, genocide, and authoritarianism. The plot of the movie is that Diesel 10, a big bully, has returned to the magical island of Sodor in search of the lost steam engine, Lady, who is the source of life for the engines. Diesel 10 plans to destroy and kill her and rule over the ashes, and as the story goes on, parts of the magical world start falling apart, and it’s up to Thomas and his Friends to stop Diesel 10 and save Lady and the magical world of Sodor.

well already you can see the apocalyptic themes; Diesel 10 plans to destroy the world by destroying Lady, and then rule over the ashes. He also states his plan to rid the world of Steam Engines like Thomas or Percy, with is a clear genocidal goal. He is utterly relentless in this goal and does not give up, but that is not all. In one scene we see Diesel 10 admiring a giant carving of himself in a mountain, which Pinchy, his claw created, and this is a clear sign of authoritarianism or dictatorship, as he has a giant monument to himself carved in a mountain.

Diesel 10 means business, and several times in the movie he attempts to murder characters. this is a children’s movie, so they couldn’t show any real executions yes, but they still got away with a lot. Diesel 10 in the movie does:

—Capturing, interrogating, and threatening to murder Mr. Conductor by dropping him off a bridge unless he reveals the location of the Magic Buffers

-Two murder attempts on James and Junior, trying to push them into fire in the smelter’s shed

-Another series of murder attempts on Lady and Thomas, chasing them in the end and trying to destroy them

-Attempted Night Raid, with clear intention to cause chaos or murder, is chased off only by Mr. Conductor threatening him with Sugar (In this Movie, Sugar is akin to poison for Diesel 10)

I think that is it, but that is pretty terrible, and combine this with the authoritarian parallels and the apocalyptic nature of the whole thing is very messed up. It is genocide at the end of the universe, Diesel 10 is trying to destroy the Steam Engines as a race while the world collapses due to it losing its magic and it’s only source, Lady, being actively hunted down.

well, this was not intentional by the Director, and she did not imagine all this, but it was something that just happened, and the film doesn’t make it very dark this way, as it is still a children’s movie, but none of what i have said is some sort of theory or conspiracy, it is right there in the plot.

It is to me one of the darkest, unintentionally dystopian children’s movies ever and i love it very much
